Because of how Zelda is structured with so much to find, these sorts of interactions with strangers is its own sort of fun, more so than we usually see with more standard games. There are zillion of YouTubers and Twitch streamers playing Zelda who add a different flavor to the experience, and may show you things as you play you would have never discovered yourself. You can go to NeoGAF or reddit communities who are building enormous, grand archives of everything the game contains, more than you could possibly archive by yourself. There are a ton of articles across a variety of gaming sites offering tips and secrets in the game. ![]() That’s where the grand collection of hundreds of thousands/millions of Zelda players come in. This is something many people want to avoid because sometimes you can find story spoilers, or sometimes even secrets or puzzle solutions themselves are considered spoilers, but the further you go in the game, and the more you’ve cleared out the map, the more you might want to see what else is out there, and what you’ve missed. Sure, I’ve shared game advice with friends before, but this is a whole new level of contact, given all there is to find (and to miss) in Breath of the Wild.įinally, outside of my own personal network of friends, because of this scope of the game and its seemingly endless collection of secrets and mysteries, this has been an incredible game to discuss with others online. This chain of shared data is almost endless, and we’re not ruining the experience for one another, we’re enhancing it. Not story spoilers, but hints about something cool we found (“Check out that forest north of the town and look for a fountain”) or things we’ve stumbled across (“I accidentally found a lost memory by this lake, I put a map marker in this screenshot”) or things we’ve missed (“You didn’t get the climbing bandana? It was in a chest in that one shrine”). ![]() ![]() But this time, I’m actually having a blast talking with my one friend who’s playing Zelda on the Wii U as we discover new things about the game together, giving each other advice along the way. I always talk video games with many of my friends, given that this is my job and I’m usually up on the latest releases in the industry. Nintendo may not have online multiplayer games of much significance at launch here, but I have been playing Breath of the Wild with my friend a long ways away from the start.
